Findings suggest that for many children getting the right access method was the first consideration and that at times this compromised the amount of vocabulary available for the child to communicate.<\/p>\n\n\n<div  class=\"wp-block accordion \">\n\t\t\t<ul class=\"accordion__wrapper\">\n\t\t\t\t<li class=\"accordion__item\">\n\t\t\t\t<input type=\"radio\" name=\"accordion_group_accordion-1\" class=\"is-sr-only accordion_group_checkbox accordion_checkbox\" id=\"accordion_group_accordion-1_0\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t<label id=\"accordion_group_label_accordion-1_0\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"accordion_group_accordion-1_0\" role=\"button\" for=\"accordion_group_accordion-1_0\" class=\"accordion__title base-text has-grey-light-background-color\"><span class=\"is-sr-only\">Toggle accordion<\/span>Implications<\/label>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"panel\" hidden aria-labelledby=\"accordion_group_label_accordion-1_0\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Determine how the child or young person will access communication in the interim while developing the skills for the longer term.<\/p><p>Provide access training opportunities for the child\/young person.<\/p><p>Provide communication opportunities with lower access demands to maintain the child\u2019s motivation to communicate and at the same time ensure language and communication skills can continue to develop.<\/p><p>Recognise when trade-offs are needed between the access method and vocabulary organisation. Where access demands reduce the availability of vocabulary on the aid, efforts should be made to make vocabulary available in other ways.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/li><li It includes mounting, the interface with other equipment as well as issues related to making the communication aid available.
