Now an initial investment of around \u00a32.8m is set to be shared between Withington and Moston Lane in North Manchester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The funding, which is intended to improve district centres in each of the 10 boroughs in Greater Manchester, supports \u201cnew high quality and green public spaces amongst wider regeneration investment\u201d as per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.manchester.gov.uk\/news\/article\/9232\/3m_investment_in_moston_and_withington_confirmed_from_national_shared_prosperity_fund\">Manchester City Council<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are the plans for the funding?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Plans for Withington are split into two parts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Partial pedestrianisation of Copson Street to improve accessibility and to create greater outdoor seating space and a potential venue for street traders.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Creation of a new library square at the intersection of Wellington Road and Wilmslow Road as a high quality green public space that provides spaces to rest as well as a suitable area for outdoor public events.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" src=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2023\/05\/Withington_Library_-_geograph.org_.uk_-_3276870.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11787\" srcset=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2023\/05\/Withington_Library_-_geograph.org_.uk_-_3276870.jpg 640w, https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2023\/05\/Withington_Library_-_geograph.org_.uk_-_3276870-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Plans have been announced for a new library square at the intersection of Wellington Road and Wilmslow Road. Image: Manchester Labour Party<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>These plans for Withington are another step towards realising the ambitions of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.manchester.gov.uk\/downloads\/download\/7304\/draft_withington_framework\">Withington Framework<\/a>, a vision for investment and development in the village that was announced in August 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ambitious plans across the city<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Other areas of Manchester have already seen the benefits of the Shared Prosperity Fund. City Council leader Bev Craig pointed to recent developments in Wythenshawe and <a href=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/public-consultation-over-gorton-developments-ends\/\">Gorton<\/a> as examples of the council&#8217;s ambitions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis funding will help kickstart some really welcome projects in Moston and Withington, creating quality green public space that will act as focal point for the highstreets of these two neighbourhoods. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur district centres across the city are the beating hearts of our communities. They are places that should be nurtured for the incredibly important role they play in both the economic and social wellbeing of our local areas. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are developing ambitious plans for district centres across the city.
