He said that &#8220;People are angry&#8221;. Photo Credit: Anna Klekot  <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The longer journeys however have only contributed to the already congested Wilmslow road and traffic emissions, said Danish, &#8220;I feel like the pollution has gone up, if you go on the main road &#8211; Wilmslow road, you&#8217;ll see that there is traffic, all the time, so blocking one street in the name of safer streets and having a whole lot of trouble for other people is not making sense.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zakir has also expressed his concern over the business which hasn&#8217;t been taken into consideration. Photo Credit: Anna Klekot<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p><strong>&#8220;Traffic was really bad and the speeding was a real issue&#8221;<\/strong><\/p><cite>&#8211; Len Grant<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Len Grant, a resident of Withington, has said, &#8220;planters and road closures have made the streets a lot quieter, and as a cyclist much more pleasant to use&#8221;. Noticing the impact on pedestrians and cyclists. However, Len added that &#8220;it would be interesting to know if there was another way of solving the problem that has less of an impact on everyone.&#8221; Some residents feel positive about the goal of the scheme but see its need for improvements for the neighbourhood.<\/p>\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">There&#8217;s a *very* lively debate going on in Withington right now, where anti-LTN protestors are arguing with a few residents who are in favour of the traffic calming scheme. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/nDkWytFSn3\">pic.twitter.com\/nDkWytFSn3<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Mill (@ManchesterMill) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ManchesterMill\/status\/1715729801749692648?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 21, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n<p>With the mixed response of the neighbourhood, there is no denying that a lot of people are dissatisfied with the council&#8217;s execution of the plan, so far the online petition has already accumulated over 1,000 signatures in support of prematurely ending the trial, originally scheduled for February 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A spokesperson for Manchester City Council has said: &#8220;The aim of the Parsonage Safer Streets project is to create a safer, more welcoming and more environmentally friendly neighbourhood where the health and safety of residents is prioritised over the usage of cars.&#8221; Adding that &#8220;it is important to note this is a trial and can be subject to change as more is understood about its impact.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Residents in Withington have raised their concerns over the recent instillation of planters on nine junctions in the area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1645,"featured_media":14008,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"om_disable_all_campaigns":false,"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_uf_show_specific_survey":0,"_uf_disable_surveys":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[4972],"tags":[5444,4712,280,623,916],"class_list":["post-13999","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-low-traffic-neighborhood","tag-post-office","tag-protest","tag-road-closures","tag-withington"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.1 -
