There were also members of the Socialist Workers\u2019 Party (SWP) present, as well as members of the local community who were not affiliated to any group.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This is disgraceful <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gmpolice?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@gmpolice<\/a> assault on a man in Hulme\/Old Trafford area Chorlton road <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MENnewsdesk?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@MENnewsdesk<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AndyBurnhamGM?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@AndyBurnhamGM<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JamAntonioTV?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@JamAntonioTV<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/policebrutality?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#policebrutality<\/a> disgraceful this officer needs to be sacked immediately and arrested for assault. She added that she believed that the police do have a right to protect themselves but in the context of the video he appeared to be lying still on the pavement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Distraction tactics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At the event, Lamin said \u201cI believe the officer responsible must be suspended, as it sends a clear message to anyone in our community in south Manchester, that the police cannot assault anyone regardless of the context without consequences\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only did he receive \u201cfive blows to the back of his head but if that wasn\u2019t enough force, they pepper sprayed him\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Lamin this protest was not&nbsp;just against the officers in the video, but it was against the response by the GMP who have \u201ccome out and said that this was appropriate force and that the blows were distraction strikes to help detain him\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/touch.policeoracle.com\/news\/article.cfm?id=30601#:~:text=These%20techniques%20include%20the%20use,has%20found%20they%20acted%20appropriately\">The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) <\/a>have previously defined distraction strikes as \u201cintended to stop a person resisting to allow for a safe arrest\u201d. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">GMP&#8217;s response<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Detective Chief Inspector Dave Jones of GMP&#8217;s Professional Standards Directorate insists that other tactics were used before the officers resorted to using distraction tactics. He stated that &#8220;we understand that the video, viewed in isolation, is a cause for concern&#8221; but he added that footage from the bodycams worn by the officers &#8220;adds eight minutes worth of context to the short clip on social media&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Greater Manchester Police have denied any wrongdoing.
