{"id":1481,"date":"2017-10-02T10:20:54","date_gmt":"2017-10-02T09:20:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/2017\/10\/02\/metrolink-tram-fare-rise-slammed-mancunians\/"},"modified":"2017-10-02T10:20:54","modified_gmt":"2017-10-02T09:20:54","slug":"metrolink-tram-fare-rise-slammed-mancunians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/metrolink-tram-fare-rise-slammed-mancunians\/","title":{"rendered":"Metrolink tram fare rise slammed by Mancunians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week it has been announced that &nbsp;Metrolink in Manchester will increase &nbsp;fares for the next there years by 6%.<\/p>\n<p>Tram fares have been frozen since 2014 and bosses say the fares are intended to generate revenue &nbsp;to grow the network and cover increased operating costs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\tWe spoke to the people of Manchester who use the&nbsp;Metro daily and asked how they felt about the increase.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image file-default media-element\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" alt=\"metrolink, manchester, fares rise\" src=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/sites\/default\/files\/nadia_pic_2-min.jpg\" data-fid=\"1755\" data-delta=\"4\" data-media-element=\"1\"><figcaption>Sam Downhill<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"image file-default media-element\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" alt=\"metrolink, manchester, fares rise\" src=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/sites\/default\/files\/nadia_pic_1-min.jpg\" data-fid=\"1754\" data-delta=\"3\" data-media-element=\"1\"><figcaption>Colette Carroll<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"image file-default media-element\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" alt=\"metrolink, manchester, fares rise\" src=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/sites\/default\/files\/img_1230.jpg\" data-fid=\"1752\" data-delta=\"1\" data-media-element=\"1\"><figcaption>Ellie Caulfield<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Project co-ordinator Collette Carroll, 66, from Prestwich, said: &#8220;It won&#8217;t be an issue for me as I have a travel pass but I still think it&#8217;s outrageous and not fair on people that can&#8217;t afford it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ellie Caulfield, 22 a sales advisor from &nbsp;Castlefield has similar views to Collette, said: &#8220;It\u2019s a liberty, my route is secured and I don&#8217;t want to be paying more than I am already.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ellie travels to Altrincham &nbsp;five daysa- week for work, already paying \u00a360 a month.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\tSam Downhill, 23, who works in account and is from Chorlton said: &#8220;Already very expensive, and to increase these prices just for the sake of covering other expenses within the metro link is very conning.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\tSharon Clancey, 51, of&nbsp; Didsbury, added &#8220;It&#8217;s quite a large increase, I would of recieved the news better if it was a gradual increase and over a period of time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sharon is a psychiatric general nurse who uses the Metrolink as her main form of transport to work.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\t&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week it has been announced that &nbsp;Metrolink in Manchester will increase &nbsp;fares for the next there years by 6%.
