It was put on hold last year following a \u00a315 million capital development project, Hello Future, but has been revived just in time for Christmas this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The gift appeal will support local charities Barnabus and Mustard Tree and visitors will be encouraged to visit Stan, donate gifts and take selfies with \u2018Stanta Claws\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Karen Brackenridge at Manchester Museum spoke about her idea for Stan\u2019s Secret Santa: \u201cStan\u2019s Secret Santa first came about in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cManchester Museum did some work with certain organisations, and I took notice of how bad homelessness is in Manchester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI asked if we could do a Stan Secret Santa- I just thought everyone could come through and we could do an appeal for donations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIn lockdown everybody brought things in for one day and it was amazing<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis appeal now belongs to the museum and it\u2019s not just about homelessness, but also poverty support in Manchester.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n Manchester Museum is appealing for donations of new, unwrapped Christmas gifts and new, seasonal food items, as well as wrapping paper and Christmas cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cNothing is to be resold, its gifted, gifted, gifted,\u201d said Karen. \u201cIt\u2019s caring to share and sharing to care\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n All gifts donated by the public will be passed on to Barnabus<\/a> and Mustard Tree<\/a> who will distribute them in time for Christmas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Esme Ward, Director of Manchester Museum, said: \u201cManchester Museum has been a landmark in the city for more than 130 years so we feel it\u2019s really important to look out for people within our immediate community, especially those who may be vulnerable or struggling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cStan is also a bit of a Manchester celebrity so we\u2019re delighted he\u2019s bought into our values of care and inclusion, and chosen to support two local charities doing fantastic work in Barnabus and Mustard Tree.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMustard Tree are greatly in need of donations all year round, but particularly during Christmas when parents are having to make impossible decisions around heating their homes or buying their children Christmas presents” said Jack Barton, Communications Manager at Mustard Tree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe\u2019re incredibly grateful to the Manchester Museum team and visitors who have chosen to support us \u2013 thank you on behalf of everyone at Mustard Tree.\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Carol Price, Fundraising Manager at Barnabus, said about the appeal: \u201cWe are so thankful that Manchester Museum have chosen to support Barnabus with their Stan\u2019s Secret Santa appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “This is such a brilliant idea encouraging the donation of gifts to support people rough sleeping and experiencing homelessness this Christmas and Winter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n “It is such a memorable way for all the family to generously support Barnabus and have a festive selfie with their amazing T. rex \u2018Stanta Claws\u2019”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The full list of desired donation items:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Food:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Clothes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Feature image credit: Manchester Museum.
