Refills not Landfills<\/a> is a campaign aimed at raising awareness of the damage that plastic is doing to our planet and encouraging everyone to use a reusable water bottle, instead of repurchasing one.<\/p>\n

Every minute a million plastic bottles are bought around the world and this number is expected to jump another 20% by 2021, creating an environmental crisis. Our planet is suffering because of our addiction to single use plastics.<\/p>\n

This problem is showing no signs of slowing down and is affecting everything from our environment to marine life, with between 5 million to 13 million tonnes of plastic being leaked into the world\u2019s oceans each year to be ingested by sea birds, fish and other organisms. By 2050, the amount of plastic in the oceans could weigh more than the entire fish population.<\/p>\n

It is time to take control of plastic pollution and #TakeBackTheTap before it\u2019s too late.<\/p>\n

This is a worldwide problem however this campaign is focusing primarily on Manchester. The petition<\/a> is addressed to Andy Burnham, Mayor of Manchester, and aims to raise awareness and educate the people of this city about the devastating damage our repurchasing habits are causing. This could include teaching children about the facts of plastic pollution in schools and encouraging them to recycle, posting leaflets through doors and possibly advertisements around Manchester to highlight this problem. Instead of repurchasing bottles of water, we should encourage the people of Manchester to drink tap water from a reusable bottle. Not only is it free and accessible, but it could also slow this plastic pollution problem down.<\/p>\n

Everyone can play a part in this change, regardless of whether you are in Manchester or not. Don\u2019t repurchase plastic bottles, instead use a reusable water bottle and refill from the tap. It\u2019s time to #TakeBackTheTap.<\/p>\n
