The thing (the closure) cut the borders really bad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> &#8220;The reason why I used to go to the golf course, I\u2019ve got quite a lot of clients over there. Like right now I can\u2019t even speak to them. It\u2019s just like a barrier, a kind of island.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Closure protest<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Olatunde Stence, echoing Morris&#8217; sentiments, highlighted the dire consequences of the closure on individuals with disabilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I have a friend who relies on an electric wheelchair. She can only get on to the bridge but can\u2019t get over to the other side,&#8221; Stence explained. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a matter of basic accessibility and dignity.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The protest, which has gained momentum in recent days, is fuelled by a shared sense of frustration and urgency among residents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elizabeth Bain who started the protest wrote on\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.change.org\">www.change.org<\/a>: \u201cWithout the bridge, many friends, intergenerational and otherwise, between people common ground is this conjoined green space are fractures.  Putting a stop to much face-to-face interactions and cross generation activities that makes our community thrive.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She called on the council to reopen the bridge over the River Mersey for the sake of pedestrians, mobility users and cyclists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The protest has received a total of 1,179 signatures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Steve, a regular visitor to the bridge site, underscored the need for a comprehensive, long-term solution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Short-term repairs won&#8217;t cut it,&#8221; Steve remarked. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said there was a need for a sustainable plan that not only restores the bridge but also strengthens it for the future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhy not the council seek for a long-term repair of the bridge? Efforts made to get the councillor to comment on the development as the protest is gaining more signatures have not been successful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Unfortunately, we do not have a clear timeline for repair and reopening at this stage.
