{"id":1971,"date":"2018-01-12T20:31:28","date_gmt":"2018-01-12T20:31:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/2018\/01\/12\/75-million-passengers-travelled-through-greater-manchester-last-year-figures-reveal\/"},"modified":"2018-01-12T20:31:28","modified_gmt":"2018-01-12T20:31:28","slug":"75-million-passengers-travelled-through-greater-manchester-last-year-figures-reveal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/75-million-passengers-travelled-through-greater-manchester-last-year-figures-reveal\/","title":{"rendered":"75 million passengers travelled through Greater Manchester last year, figures reveal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than 75m people travelled through Manchester\u2019s railways in the last year according to research done by Office of Rail and Road (ORR).<\/p>\n<p>The estimates were released in a report published in December that used ticket sales to determine the number of passengers that entered and exited train stations in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>The estimate is a 8% increase from the 69m passengers that travelled through Manchester in 2015-16.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-1969\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2018\/01\/chart_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"608\" height=\"367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2018\/01\/chart_2.jpg 608w, https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2018\/01\/chart_2-300x181.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 608px) 100vw, 608px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) was elected in December as the president of European transport organisation, Polis.<\/p>\n<p>Rafael Cuesta, TfGM\u2019s head of development and innovation, said: \u201cTransport is key to our growth and the challenges we face, such as congestion, air quality and changing customer need, are the same challenges other cities and regions face across Europe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy being a part of this network we will be able to work together, share our knowledge and develop our skills so that we can come up with the right solutions.
