{"id":23660,"date":"2026-02-20T08:07:58","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T08:07:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/?p=23660"},"modified":"2026-02-23T16:51:37","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T16:51:37","slug":"students-from-man-met-team-up-to-showcase-new-music-talent-as-part-off-brits-awards-in-manchester","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/students-from-man-met-team-up-to-showcase-new-music-talent-as-part-off-brits-awards-in-manchester\/","title":{"rendered":"Students from Man Met team up to showcase new music talent as part of Brits awards in Manchester"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Featured image: PA Media<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For the first time since they began in 1977 the Brit awards are being held in Manchester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The relocation up north is not the only exciting news this time around, as this year will see the addition of BRITs Fringe alongside the main event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BRITs fringe is a new initiative dedicated to showcasing and encouraging aspiring young artists in Manchester&#8217;s dynamic music scene by harnessing the power and profile of the BRIT awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Kirsty Fairclough, research and innovation lead at Manchester Metropolitan university&#8217;s School of Digital Arts (SODA), has been involved with the project from the beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s all about inspiring, up skilling and empowering the next generation of Manchester&#8217;s musical talent\u201d, says Kirsty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"b\">Brits Fringe Lab<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On Friday (27 February), the day before the BRITS, Fringe Lab will take place at New Century Hall.&nbsp;&nbsp;There will be a series of panels and the event will culminate with a performance from four upcoming artists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event promises to \u2018bring together emerging artists music professionals and creatives\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere will be talks, hands-on workshops immersive masterclasses, then there&#8217;s a live public showcase which is spotlighting four of Manchester&#8217;s potential future BRIT winners!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There will also be three \u2018First Steps\u2019 sessions taking place in the run up to the BRITs. Image Lucy North\/PA Wire.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"f\">First Steps sessions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>First Steps into Songwriting<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Monday, 23 February at Band on The Wall, in partnership with the Manchester College<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>First Steps into Building An Audience<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Wednesday ,25 February at The Holden Gallery, in partnership with SODA<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>First Steps into Selling Your Music<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Thursday, 26 February at the Royal Northern College of Music<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you&#8217;re someone who&#8217;s done a few gigs and you&#8217;re wanting to develop your career a bit further these will be quite intensive sessions. It\u2019s not just going to be general panels,\u201d Kirsty explained.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt will be people working with you from various record labels who will be giving detailed advice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students from Manchester Metropolitan university have arranged paid work experience at the BRITs this year, which Kirsty is \u201creally, really&nbsp;pleased about\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the first time since they began in 1977 the Brit awards are being held in Manchester.
