A further 15% responded saying they had more hazardous&nbsp;problems such as exposed wiring &#8211; a&nbsp;#StopStudentSqualor independent study has found.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;Private Members&nbsp;Bill&#8217;,&nbsp;campaigned by Labour, is proposed legislation to require that rented accomodation is provided and maintained in a state of fitness for human habitation &#8211; this campaign hopes to raise awareness of student homes that are unfit for human habitation.<\/p>\n<p>According to&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/england.shelter.org.uk\/__data\/assets\/pdf_file\/0010\/726166\/People_living_in_bad_housing.pdf\">The Health Survey for England<\/a>; &nbsp;those living in bad housing are at much greater risk of poorer general health, low mental wellbeing and respiratory problems.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Bad housing\u2019 includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Excess cold<\/li>\n<li>Crowding and space<\/li>\n<li>Fire risk<\/li>\n<li>Dampness and mould growth<\/li>\n<li>Domestic hygiene pests and refuse<\/li>\n<li>Electrical faults<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure class=\"image file-default media-element\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Damp in a student's home\" data-delta=\"3\" data-fid=\"3274\" data-media-element=\"1\" height=\"313\" src=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/sites\/default\/files\/damp.jpg\" width=\"662\"><figcaption>Black mould and damp in a student&#8217;s home<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Of those who claimed to have unacceptable living conditions, 81.25% strongly agreed that there isn\u2019t enough information available of what to do when their landlord doesn\u2019t repair these issues, our study found.<\/p>\n<p>The campaign&#8217;s aim is also to give <em><strong>you<\/strong><\/em> the information you need if your landlord isn&#8217;t repairing issues, and to help <em><strong>you<\/strong><\/em> get the safe and healthy living space you deserve whilst studying.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 15 million of us live in bad housing, and a large proportion of that number is in privately rented accommodation.
