{"id":2709,"date":"2018-11-12T19:32:53","date_gmt":"2018-11-12T19:32:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/2018\/11\/12\/metrolink-ticket-pricing-change-london-style-zonal-system\/"},"modified":"2018-11-12T19:32:53","modified_gmt":"2018-11-12T19:32:53","slug":"metrolink-ticket-pricing-change-london-style-zonal-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/metrolink-ticket-pricing-change-london-style-zonal-system\/","title":{"rendered":"Metrolink ticket pricing to change to London style zonal system"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has announced changes to the way it prices its tickets with the introduction of of four&nbsp;travel zones across Greater Manchetser.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The new scheme to be introduced in January 2019 is replacing the current stop to stop&nbsp;system which divides the system into 18 travel zones meaning travellers can only travel between the locations specified on their ticket.<\/p>\n<p>The changes are set out in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfgm.com\/2040\" title=\"Greater Manchester 2040 Transport Strategy\">Greater Manchester 2040 Transport Strategy<\/a>.&nbsp;TfGM states these changes will allow for a cheaper and more simple apporach to getting around the network.<\/p>\n<p>TfGM&nbsp;said 78.5% of fares will be cheaper under a zonal system, with 11.5% costing more. This comes as ticket prices on the service are already set&nbsp;to rise by on average&nbsp;5.93% in early 2019 as part of planned increases.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align:center\">\n<figure class=\"image file-default media-element\" style=\"display:inline-block\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"metrolink\" data-delta=\"1\" data-fid=\"265\" data-media-element=\"1\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/sites\/default\/files\/shudehill_metrolink_0.jpg\" title=\"metrolink\" width=\"600\"><figcaption>Tram bound for Bury stops at Shudehill Interchange<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>TfGM states it will invest in&nbsp;27 new trams to help manage expected increased demand across the network.<\/p>\n<p>This news comes as Andy Burnham Mayor of Greater Manchester announced the \u00a31 Early Bird ticket in an attempt to ease congestion across Greater&nbsp;Manchester.<\/p>\n<p>The ticket&nbsp;must be bought before 7am and allows unlimited travel across the Metrolink network.
