Manchester Metropolitan men\u2019s lacrosse team has gone unbeaten in all competitions for the whole of 2018.<\/p>\n

Having played 13 games in the calendar year, winning 12 and drawing 1, MMU men\u2019s lacrosse are first in the Northern League 1A and remain the only unbeaten team in their league.<\/p>\n

MMU played Northumbria in November, winning 20-1 in their last game of 2018 to cap off an unbeaten year. The year also included a 10-6 victory over Surrey in the BUCS Lacrosse trophy final.<\/p>\n

\tReflecting on their fantastic scoresheet, lacrosse chairman Will Baxter said: \u201cIt’s mad to be honest because that calendar year covers two different seasons as well, two very different teams.<\/p><\/div>\n

“This team has come on leaps and bounds in the last three years and to finish a whole year unbeaten is amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Baxter puts the current team\u2019s success down to new additions that the team acquired at the start of the season.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cWe\u2019ve added quite a bit of talent this year. We got Joe Chorlton who has played England U19s, also Frazer Hunter who played Scotland U19s, Billy Kershaw as well who is part of the English Knights program, as well as a good few club players, which is a massive help this year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Having beaten last year\u2019s league champions Sheffield University twice already, including a 12-4 victory on 14 November, MMU face Newcastle on 30 January. Victory in this game would almost guarantee Man Met finishing the season as league champions.<\/p>\n

Lacrosse coach and England Men\u2019s player Ryan Sweetman believes this game won\u2019t be easy:<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is our toughest match up this season. Newcastle will be looking for revenge after we beat them at their place. We are also hoping to have the MMU game of the week spotlighting it, which I hope will give the lads a little extra motivation,” he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe won\u2019t change how we approach this match.There is a great atmosphere within the team this season and I wouldn\u2019t want to change that for a single game.\u201d<\/p>\n

Performance sport officer Chloe Wilcox sees them as one of the top performing sports at the university and has been very impressed with the team in recent years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are definitely in the top five performing sports at the university I\u2019d say. We\u2019ve got our spotlight sports and lacrosse men\u2019s team would be a highlighted sport in terms of where they\u2019ve been successful,” she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be a spotlight sport you\u2019ve just got to be competing in the top league for the sport which after the end of this season we hope the team will get promotion and will gain spotlight sport status.\u201d<\/p>\n

In terms of promotion, The Northern Premier league is extremely competitive with sides like Nottingham Trent and Durham University being littered with England players, club level players and a host of American students that have come across the pond solely to play Lacrosse.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
