Brexit is going to have the biggest effect on the younger generations\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image media-wysiwyg-align-center file-default media-element\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Shannon Johnson\" data-delta=\"1\" data-fid=\"4213\" data-media-element=\"1\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/sites\/default\/files\/shannon_pic_2.jpg\" title=\"Law Graduate Shannon Johnson\" width=\"600\"><figcaption>Image courtesy of Shannon Johnson<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It was also reported in the BBC that more young people are not voting for reasons such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/election-2017-39965925\">distrusting the political parties<\/a> and not being educated enough on these issues. This has also&nbsp;been debated in parliament.<\/p>\n<p>Labour MP for Denton and Reddish Andrew Gwynne said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I have consistently voted to lower the franchise in all elections to 16-year-olds including for the 2016 referendum.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The consensus seems to be that the younger generation need to use their voice now more than ever during this pressing time. Lord Heseltine talked about this in a podcast with Channel 4 about how young people are being \u2018ignored over Brexit.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"476\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FChannel4News%2Fvideos%2F1942862039353960%2F&amp;show_text=0&amp;width=476\" style=\"border: currentColor; border-image: none; overflow: hidden;\" width=\"476\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Femi Oluwole is a co-founder of OFOC which stands for Our Future Our Choice \u2013 a campaign group led by young people campaigning for a people\u2019s vote on the Brexit deal from February 2016 with a network of 30 students across the UK.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image file-default media-element\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Femi Oluwole\" data-delta=\"2\" data-fid=\"4214\" data-media-element=\"1\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/sites\/default\/files\/femi_ofoc.jpg\" title=\"Femi Oluwole from OFOC\" width=\"600\"><figcaption>Femi Oluwole from Our Future Our Choice, Picture <g class=\"gr_ gr_34 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace\" data-gr-id=\"34\" id=\"34\">taken<\/g> from <g class=\"gr_ gr_28 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace\" data-gr-id=\"28\" id=\"28\">twitter<\/g> with permission: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Femi_Sorry\">Femi_Sorry<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He said: \u201cIf 16-17-year olds are able to be economically active, they should have a say about their economy and if there\u2019s ever an opportunity to give them a particular vote it should be on this issue. The average age someone will be when they first vote is 20 \u00bd so it\u2019s not a surprise you have such low political engagement in younger ages. If you lower the voting age it will give them a reason to be politically engaged in these issues\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the opportunity for them to vote in the 2016 referendum has passed, many are still campaigning against Brexit and calling for a second referendum saying that young people need to find their political voice.<\/p>\n<p>Cath Moss&nbsp;is a part of the anti-Brexit campaign Manchester for Europe and believes that a second referendum is needed to correct the second and this can be an opportunity for 16-17-year olds to have a voice.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cYoung people need to find their voice and make their case about how much of their future is at stake.
