Many argue that in 2016, when the initial referendum was held, the majority of British people were misled and misinformed by politicians.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image file-default media-element\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hundreds of thousands attended the People's Vote march in October 2018\" data-delta=\"2\" data-fid=\"4246\" data-media-element=\"1\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/sites\/default\/files\/49848571_287505045297552_1014314650742816768_n.jpg\" title=\"Hundreds of thousands attended the People's Vote march in October 2018\" width=\"600\"><figcaption>Hundreds of thousands attended the People&#8217;s Vote march in London last October.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.parliament.uk\/biographies\/commons\/caroline-lucas\/3930\">Caroline Lucas<\/a>, Green Party MP, addressed the public with a powerful speech rallying the crowd to acknowledge that &#8220;democracy didn&#8217;t end on the 23rd of June 2016&#8221;, and since then &#8220;the will of the people has changed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HlgRF-8rgy8\" width=\"560\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>A prominent organisation in this campaign is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ofoc.co.uk\/\">Our Future, Our Choice<\/a>, whose efforts focus on making young people\u2019s voices heard on Brexit.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Formed in a living room in East London in September 2017, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ofoc.co.uk\/40\">Femi Oluwole<\/a> and three other university students recognised that young people were not being represented in the Brexit debate and decided there should be an organisation that aims to do just that.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">They started before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peoples-vote.uk\/\">People\u2019s Vote<\/a> was launched, when a second referendum was still a distant dream. A lot of the initial campaigns involved trying to gain media attention by being active on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OFOCBrexit\">twitter<\/a> and performing eye-catching stunts.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image file-default media-element\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Our Future, Our Choice help with the no-deal stockpiling efforts\" data-delta=\"5\" data-fid=\"4258\" data-media-element=\"1\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/sites\/default\/files\/ofoc_stunt.jpg\" title=\"Our Future, Our Choice help with the no-deal stockpiling efforts\" width=\"600\"><figcaption>Our Future, Our Choice perform a stunt to help with the no-deal stockpiling efforts.<br \/>\n\t\tImage Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theneweuropean.co.uk\/top-stories\/femi-oluwole-and-ofoc-campaigners-organise-stockpiling-stunt-1-5661880\">The New European<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Having become more established in the past year, now the group focuses its attention on talking to politicians and school events across the country, to interest young people in politics and show them their voices are heard. Hugo Lucas, director of communication at Our Future Our Choice says,\u201cWe encourage young people to write to their MPs, and organise <a href=\"https:\/\/www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk\/news\/uk\/dozens-of-young-activists-call-for-peoples-vote-on-brexit-37570912.html\">mass lobbies in parliament<\/a> in London. Richard Bergen and Mariella Frostrup stood on stage with a massive letter and sharpie, demonstrating how easy it was for people to write to their MPs. However, Hugo asserts, \u201cA lot of our organisation is formed by those who are currently too young to vote, that\u2019s one of the reasons why we\u2019re for votes at 16 years old. With parliament currently in gridlock and politicians struggling to deliver what was initially promised, a second vote may arguably be considered the only way forward.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The grounds on which the initial Brexit debate took place has also changed, since the public are more aware of the divorce bill and a hard border in Ireland or the potential for a backstop. While public debate has led to the public being more informed about issues around Brexit, the inertia of leaving the EU as the result of a democratic vote still needs to be challenged, so that people can reconsider the terms on which the UK may leave the EU.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last October, hundreds of thousands of people marched to parliament in London, campaigning for a second Brexit vote.
