{"id":3842,"date":"2019-10-22T17:01:51","date_gmt":"2019-10-22T16:01:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/2019\/10\/22\/manchester-art-fair-2019-place-full-inspirational-people-and-artwork\/"},"modified":"2019-10-22T17:01:51","modified_gmt":"2019-10-22T16:01:51","slug":"manchester-art-fair-2019-place-full-inspirational-people-and-artwork","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/manchester-art-fair-2019-place-full-inspirational-people-and-artwork\/","title":{"rendered":"Manchester Art Fair 2019: A place full of inspirational people and artwork"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.manchesterartfair.co.uk\">Manchester Art Fair<\/a> 2019, one of the largest and most ambitious art fairs in the UK, showcased work from over 200 UK and international galleries at the Central Library.<\/p>\n<p>The event gave visitors the chance to explore modern and contemporary paintings, sculpture, photography and special edition&nbsp;prints, with famous works by Andy Warhol, Banksy, Damien Hirst as well as by talented artists working in the region.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image file-default media-element\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-delta=\"2\" data-fid=\"5053\" data-media-element=\"1\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/sites\/default\/files\/img_7098manchester_art_fair_5_0.jpg\" width=\"600\"><figcaption>iMT Gallery London participating for the seventh time in the fair<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One of these artists was Kwame Akpokavi, who presented his original African mixed-media artworks. He happily noticed that people are not just browsing around but are generally interested in the arts and the way work is produced.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image file-default media-element\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"art fair, manchester\" data-delta=\"1\" data-fid=\"5051\" data-media-element=\"1\" height=\"846\" src=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/sites\/default\/files\/img_7137manchester_art_fair_4.jpg\" width=\"600\"><figcaption>Artist Kwame Akpokavi<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>In his work Kwame focuses on used recyclable materials like cotton fabrics and stitches, and&nbsp;even glues them onto the canvas. He wants to spread the message that we should reuse things more often instead of throwing them away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am trying to encourage people to start asking themselves questions about the way we live our lives,\u201d&nbsp;he said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Another artist&nbsp;who was part of the fair for the first time&nbsp;is James Roper from Manchester. He showcased his abstract and colourful paintings inspired by Japanese animation, comic books, pychedelia, haute couture fashion and everything in between.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image file-default media-element\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-delta=\"3\" data-fid=\"5054\" data-media-element=\"1\" height=\"417\" src=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/sites\/default\/files\/img_7159manchester_art_fair_2.jpg\" width=\"600\"><figcaption>Artist James Roper and his work<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>To the question if he would come back he answers: \u201cI would come back, yes. But I would probably have a smaller stall and more prints. The Manchester Art scene is good in thriving but I sold more original pieces in the US and London.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Not only could guests explore different types of art pieces but also participate in workshops like framing advice, different techniques of acrylic colour and painting sessions.
