{"id":3915,"date":"2019-11-20T19:45:47","date_gmt":"2019-11-20T19:45:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/2019\/11\/20\/salford-university-music-student-perform-nursing-home-residents-spread-happiness-and-joy\/"},"modified":"2019-11-20T19:45:47","modified_gmt":"2019-11-20T19:45:47","slug":"salford-university-music-student-perform-nursing-home-residents-spread-happiness-and-joy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/salford-university-music-student-perform-nursing-home-residents-spread-happiness-and-joy\/","title":{"rendered":"Salford University music student to perform for nursing home residents to spread \u2018happiness and joy\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salford.ac.uk\/\">Salford University<\/a> student is raising money for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dementiauk.org\/\">Dementia UK<\/a> as part of her Uni project to provide music therapy&nbsp;to elderly nursing home patients.<\/p>\n<p>Paige Kearns, 23, a popular music and recording student at Salford University, believes that music can help those who suffer from mental and cognitive handicaps.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to NQ, Paige said \u201cThe aim of what I\u2019m doing is to use music in a way that helps those who suffer from mental health issues, or any health issues that affect the brain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Salford student will be performing at a nursing home in her hometown, Stoke-on-Trent&nbsp;tomorrow (26&nbsp;November).<\/p>\n<p>The project titled Musimagination&nbsp;is part of her arts administration qualification, an idea she got when visiting the same nursing home she will be performing at.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-3914\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2019\/11\/musimagination.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2019\/11\/musimagination.jpg 678w, https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2019\/11\/musimagination-212x300.jpg 212w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy mum works in a nursing home and over the summer I visited, and it really got me down. The residents looked unhappy and it got to me,&#8221; said Paige<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe idea of Musimagination is to use music to help people. I never thought of it in that way until I visited the nursing home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll be performing &#8217;50s and &#8217;60s music to hopefully take the residents back to a nostalgic period in their life, to make them happy and to spread joy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Paige hopes to continue to help vulnerable or disadvantaged people in the future by using music.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the future I would like to do something like this.
