Claire\u2019s Twitter bio refers to the \u2018valley girl, done good\u2019 which alludes to her working-class South Wales background.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Claire capitalised on her authenticity throughout her career that started with Trinity Mirror through to her senior role at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hearst.co.uk\/\">Hearst Group<\/a> via Look, Grazia and The Sun.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Students appreciated her insights on breaking into the industry, equal pay, mental health and print\/online strategies that have made Women\u2019s Health so successful.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Digital leads to print<\/h2>\n<p>Sam Lawrenson, first year MMJ student, added:&nbsp;&nbsp;Claire\u2019s talk was insightful and inspiring as she covered a range of serious matters such including mental health.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, one aspect of Claire\u2019s talk that surprised me was her stance on print. Claire explained that one of her key roles was revenue diversification but was confident that print sales and subscriptions still lead the way for Women\u2019s Health\u2019s financial future.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis shocked me as the industry seemed to be nearly all digital and appeared to benefit from platforms such as Instagram to share content such as workouts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Women\u2019s Health has a strong social media presence that draws together <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCwGBV6mXtBB3O-rEQpevYHA\">YouTube<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/womenshealthuk\/?hl=en\">Instagram<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WomensHealthMag?s=20\">Twitter<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/womenshealthmagazine\/\">Facebook<\/a> that, along with live events,&nbsp;supports the print edition.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The&nbsp;multiplatform&nbsp;approach is backed by an ethos centred on increasing women&#8217;s confidence and power which is evidenced by&nbsp;the strong publishing campaign &#8211; Project Body Love:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Yesterday <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/c_l_sanderson?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@c_l_sanderson<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WomensHealthMag?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@WomensHealthMag<\/a> spoke to my students. Video in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/northernquota?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@northernquota<\/a> tweet&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MMUJournalism?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@MMUJournalism<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/uDD1wcxzJo\">https:\/\/t.co\/uDD1wcxzJo<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Wvn7euls65\">pic.twitter.com\/Wvn7euls65<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\u2014 Eleanor (@mscrow) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mscrow\/status\/1224767755494273024?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 4, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>A panel of students led the way for a lively Q&amp;A with Claire that ended on an incisive question from Leighton Currie, a first-year student, about racial diversity in journalism.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Claire responded that \u201cthe problem we face is that we do not get enough diverse applicants applying for the jobs and that needs to change, but I can\u2019t give jobs to people who don\u2019t apply for them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThings need to be put in place to encourage people from more diverse backgrounds &#8211; including race, gender and socio-economic backgrounds &#8211; and this is the big battle, the big challenge that the media faces.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s something that Hearst are doing now; they\u2019re trying to recruit from more diverse backgrounds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Details of the news four-week internship opportunities will shortly be revealed by Hearst.
