{"id":4741,"date":"2020-09-29T17:18:07","date_gmt":"2020-09-29T16:18:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/2020\/09\/29\/free-tablet-and-laptop-devices-being-offered-stockport-residents-who-have-no-access-internet\/"},"modified":"2020-09-29T17:18:07","modified_gmt":"2020-09-29T16:18:07","slug":"free-tablet-and-laptop-devices-being-offered-stockport-residents-who-have-no-access-internet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/free-tablet-and-laptop-devices-being-offered-stockport-residents-who-have-no-access-internet\/","title":{"rendered":"Free tablet and laptop devices being offered to Stockport residents who have no access to the internet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stockport residents without access to the internet are being offered free tablet and laptop devices to help them stay connected during the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The DigiKnow Device Lending Library is offering the devices \u2013 as well as free data packages \u2013 on loan to families and elderly people who otherwise would have no means of getting online.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative was set up by Starting Point \u2013 a member of Stockport\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stockport.gov.uk\/news\/two-years-of-digital-skills-support-invaluable-for-stockport-in-lockdown\">Digital Inclusion Alliance<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 after they were awarded \u00a310,000 by Stockport council.<\/p>\n<p>The programme comes as the latest attempt in making sure as many people as possible are able to carry out basic digital tasks such as staying connected with family and friends, applying for jobs and completing schoolwork during Covid-19.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">If you\u2019d like to learn to do things on the internet but don\u2019t have any way of getting online, you may be able to borrow a laptop or tablet and data from the new Digital Lending Library. Call the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/DigiKnow?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#DigiKnow<\/a> Helpline on 07537 127095 to find out more. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GhgS1OBqXN\">pic.twitter.com\/GhgS1OBqXN<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\t\u2014 Stockport Council (@StockportMBC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/StockportMBC\/status\/1308435984367976449?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 22, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The programme offers one-month long tablet loans and three-month long laptop loans to those in need, as well as access to a \u2018digital champion\u2019 who can provide advice on how to get online and use the internet safely.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Kate Butler said: \u201cThis device lending scheme is helping residents who want to do things online but are unable to do so.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome residents have no way of accessing the internet, others don\u2019t have enough devices within a household or the right device for the task in hand.
