{"id":4762,"date":"2020-10-01T18:47:39","date_gmt":"2020-10-01T17:47:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/2020\/10\/01\/almost-20-englands-population-will-need-mental-health-support-result-covid-19-charity-warns\/"},"modified":"2020-10-01T18:47:39","modified_gmt":"2020-10-01T17:47:39","slug":"almost-20-englands-population-will-need-mental-health-support-result-covid-19-charity-warns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/almost-20-englands-population-will-need-mental-health-support-result-covid-19-charity-warns\/","title":{"rendered":"Almost 20% of England\u2019s population will need mental health support as a result of Covid-19, charity warns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"315\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cjDJzmYXCD4\" width=\"500\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Up to 10m people including a large chunk of children and young people will need additional mental health support as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.centreformentalhealth.org.uk\/publications\/covid-19-and-nations-mental-health-october-2020\">\u201cdirect consequence\u201d<\/a> of the pandemic, says the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.centreformentalhealth.org.uk\/\">Centre for Mental Health.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The forecast&nbsp;is based on the \u201cbest available evidence\u201d to predict how many people may need mental health support due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The figures have&nbsp;been released at a time when&nbsp;mental health services have taken a big hit, with fewer services available in the Manchester area.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">NEW: Our latest forecast indicates that up to 10 million people (almost 20% of the population) will need mental health support as a result of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Covid19?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Covid19<\/a>: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3tLhxmIFVk\">https:\/\/t.co\/3tLhxmIFVk<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/CovidMHImpact?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#CovidMHImpact<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/7h9PU7VDwV\">pic.twitter.com\/7h9PU7VDwV<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\t\u2014 Centre for Mental Health (@CentreforMH) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CentreforMH\/status\/1311544875209424896?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 1, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>One group of sufferers most&nbsp;affected are those&nbsp;with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/borderline-personality-disorder\/\">Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)<\/a>, a mental health issue that deals with feelings of emptiness and the fear of abandonment.<\/p>\n<p>One 22-year-old sufferer of BPD &#8211; who did not wish to be named \u2013 said: \u201cEveryone\u2019s mental health has been so intricately impacted by the lockdown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel abandoned by the mental health services. If it wasn\u2019t for the fact that I am on medication, then I don\u2019t know how I would have coped.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another sufferer of BPD, who lives in central Manchester,&nbsp;stated that they were referred to a specialist service in September 2019 but&nbsp;did not receive an appointment until April 2020 and this was rescheduled due to coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>Chief economist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.centreformentalhealth.org.uk\/publications\/covid-19-and-nations-mental-health-october-2020\">Nick O\u2019Shea<\/a> writes: \u201cA proactive, timely, compassionate and effective response will help people experiencing mental health difficulties before they reach crisis point.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Up to 10m people including a large chunk of children and young people will need additional mental health support as a \u201cdirect consequence\u201d of the&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1388,"featured_media":4761,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"om_disable_all_campaigns":false,"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_uf_show_specific_survey":0,"_uf_disable_surveys":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[4972,1],"tags":[3917,3774,70,71],"class_list":["post-4762","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","category-uncategorised","tag-bpd","tag-coronavirus","tag-mental-health","tag-mental-health-awareness"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.1 -
