{"id":4887,"date":"2020-10-19T16:53:03","date_gmt":"2020-10-19T15:53:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/2020\/10\/19\/professor-martyn-evans-appointed-director-manchester-school-art\/"},"modified":"2020-10-19T16:53:03","modified_gmt":"2020-10-19T15:53:03","slug":"professor-martyn-evans-appointed-director-manchester-school-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/professor-martyn-evans-appointed-director-manchester-school-art\/","title":{"rendered":"Professor Martyn Evans appointed director of Manchester School of Art"},"content":{"rendered":"<p paraeid=\"{7257eb1a-a36c-4b02-aec5-a2cc3bbb0052}{172}\" paraid=\"1517902516\">Professor&nbsp;Martyn Evans&nbsp;has been appointed&nbsp;the new director of the Manchester School of Art&nbsp;at&nbsp;Manchester Metropolitan University.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p paraeid=\"{7257eb1a-a36c-4b02-aec5-a2cc3bbb0052}{192}\" paraid=\"1518662050\">Professor Evans has worked at the university for the past five years as the head of the research centre at the art school, alongside&nbsp;20 years of experience&nbsp;in design and innovation.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p paraeid=\"{7257eb1a-a36c-4b02-aec5-a2cc3bbb0052}{210}\" paraid=\"1894360348\">He has held many leading roles including,&nbsp;being&nbsp;including&nbsp;the&nbsp;director of the Lancaster Institute&nbsp;of Contemporary Arts&nbsp;at Lancaster University&nbsp;as well as&nbsp;on the panel of the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p paraeid=\"{7257eb1a-a36c-4b02-aec5-a2cc3bbb0052}{236}\" paraid=\"1730884924\">He&nbsp;is taking over the \u2018global leading\u2019 art school, in his own words, which is the second oldest art school institution in the country&nbsp;dating&nbsp;back to 1838.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p paraeid=\"{020ca7c2-99c8-427d-ad0b-9253ab9711ac}{1}\" paraid=\"265014918\">He said:&nbsp;\u201cIt\u2019s an absolutely huge honour, it is an amazing art school and we want to make it as brilliant as it can be. It is a huge honour, a challenge and exciting all at different levels.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p paraeid=\"{020ca7c2-99c8-427d-ad0b-9253ab9711ac}{11}\" paraid=\"1538616327\">\u201c&nbsp;I&nbsp;want [Manchester School of Art]&nbsp;to be a global-leading arts school, that\u2019s the goal.&nbsp;And&nbsp;I should have the role if I didn\u2019t have that ambition.&nbsp;\u201d.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p paraeid=\"{020ca7c2-99c8-427d-ad0b-9253ab9711ac}{39}\" paraid=\"2086071279\">He&nbsp;added:&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cI want us to do one thing well and that is to be the best art school we can be, so if we do that everything will follow nicely from that.&nbsp;In order for us to be the best art school we need to provide the best student experience.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p paraeid=\"{020ca7c2-99c8-427d-ad0b-9253ab9711ac}{109}\" paraid=\"594638489\">Professor Evans has deeper resonance with the art school, as well as being head of the research centre since September&nbsp;2015,&nbsp;he studied a master\u2019s degree in industrial design at the art school during the 1990s.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p paraeid=\"{020ca7c2-99c8-427d-ad0b-9253ab9711ac}{67}\" paraid=\"850435023\">Since then, he has led various projects on a national and international scale&nbsp;including&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.art.mmu.ac.uk\/profile\/mevans\/projectdetails\/799\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Design 2020<\/a>&nbsp;as well as the AHRC funded&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/designactionplan.org\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Design Action Plan<\/a>&nbsp;aimed at \u2018Strategic use of design in both the public and private&nbsp;sectors\u2019&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p paraeid=\"{020ca7c2-99c8-427d-ad0b-9253ab9711ac}{67}\" paraid=\"850435023\">Professor Sharon Handley, pro-chancellor of arts and humanities at MMU, said:&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cHe&nbsp;is the right person to lead Manchester School of Art through the next stage of its journey as an art school for the 21st century.<\/p>\n<p paraeid=\"{020ca7c2-99c8-427d-ad0b-9253ab9711ac}{67}\" paraid=\"850435023\">&#8220;He brings with him an exemplary track record of leadership as a&nbsp;head of&nbsp;&nbsp;department.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p paraeid=\"{020ca7c2-99c8-427d-ad0b-9253ab9711ac}{172}\" paraid=\"162833624\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p paraeid=\"{020ca7c2-99c8-427d-ad0b-9253ab9711ac}{174}\" paraid=\"387609519\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Professor&nbsp;Martyn Evans&nbsp;has been appointed&nbsp;the new director of the Manchester School of Art&nbsp;at&nbsp;Manchester Metropolitan University.&nbsp;&nbsp; Professor Evans has worked at the university for the past five&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1375,"featured_media":4886,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"om_disable_all_campaigns":false,"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_uf_show_specific_survey":0,"_uf_disable_surveys":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[4972,1],"tags":[541,3990,3989,4,1375],"class_list":["post-4887","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","category-uncategorised","tag-art","tag-manchester-school-of-art","tag-martyn-evans","tag-mmu","tag-news"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.1 -
