{"id":5030,"date":"2020-10-27T20:27:33","date_gmt":"2020-10-27T20:27:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/2020\/10\/27\/tameside-author-sets-out-publish-childrens-novel-promoting-mental-health-awareness\/"},"modified":"2020-10-27T20:27:33","modified_gmt":"2020-10-27T20:27:33","slug":"tameside-author-sets-out-publish-childrens-novel-promoting-mental-health-awareness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/tameside-author-sets-out-publish-childrens-novel-promoting-mental-health-awareness\/","title":{"rendered":"Tameside author sets out to publish children&#8217;s novel promoting mental health awareness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A book highlighting the mental health of young people has been written by a mum who wants to reach out to other sufferers.<\/p>\n<p>Special educational needs teacher Leanne Brown, 35, wants to shares her own experience of mental illness through the children\u2019s book, Daniel\u2019s Dream.<\/p>\n<p>The book focusses on a range of mental illnesses with the intention of promoting and raising awareness to connect to other families.<\/p>\n<p>Leanne, of Ashton, said: &#8220;I came up with the name based on the concept of \u2018monsters in our heads\u2019 being the mental health issues lots of people suffer with, adults and children.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I wanted the&nbsp;monsters to come alive so that they could explain that not all monsters are bad and that lots of us have monsters in our heads that we are dealing with.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image file-default media-element\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"DREAM, BELIEVE, READ. \" data-delta=\"1\" data-fid=\"6521\" data-media-element=\"1\" height=\"324\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2020\/10\/dream_0.jpg\" width=\"600\"><figcaption>Leanne&#8217;s ethos: Dream Believe, Read<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She has worked with children with a variety of social, emotional, mental health related problems, which, inspired the central theme of Daniel\u2019s Dream.<br \/>\n\tThe story follows the dreams of a young boy named Daniel.&nbsp;However this is not any \u2018ordinary\u2019 dream.<\/p>\n<p>Leanne said: &#8220;Daniel is a shy boy.&nbsp;He gets anxious about certain things in his life and his escape is his dreams.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;But on this certain night, a monster arrives in his bedroom, who takes him to Monster Mountain on an adventure.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When he arrives there, he meets lots of different monsters, who all represent a different mental health issue, and he has to help one certain monster who suffers with anxiety\u2019\u2019<em>.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Her eight-year-old daughter Erin&nbsp;has been an inspiration to her for the book. Since being a young baby, Leanne has read to her every night something she continues to do so.<\/p>\n<p>Leanne said: &#8220;I created him based on how a child may present as being \u2018normal\u2019 but suffers silently with worry and concern.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;The idea is that Daniel will return each night to his dreams and help overcome a mental health issue that the monsters suffer with\u2019\u2019<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<figure class=\"image file-default media-element\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Leanne and Erin (Daughter)\" data-delta=\"2\" data-fid=\"6522\" data-media-element=\"1\" height=\"571\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2020\/10\/leanne_and_child.jpg\" title=\"Leanne and Erin.\" width=\"600\"><figcaption>Leanne and daughter Erin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Following her own battles with mental illness, Leanne wants to raise&nbsp;awareness for mental health.<\/p>\n<p>She said:<em> <\/em>\u2018\u2019My hope and want deep down is to at least help one person. If I can help one child, laugh, be happy or understand, then I have achieved what I wanted. Anyone enjoying the book, for pleasure, is a complete bonus to me\u2019\u2019.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The author intends to create a sequel of books following Daniel and his dreams, as well as possibly establishing a similar range for the older age ranges with the similar theme.<\/p>\n<p>Leanne said: &#8220;I\u2019d love to develop a teenager and young adult fiction book range on current issues they face with mental health.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Some issues that tend to be more evident in teenagers rather than younger children.\u2019\u2019&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Daniels Dream&nbsp;should be ready for publication in the next few months.<\/p>\n<p><em>Instagram @Dreambelieveread<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A book highlighting the mental health of young people has been written by a mum who wants to reach out to other sufferers.
