Image: Georgina Randall<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The practice\u2019s patients are mostly&nbsp;students, with the invite to take advantage of the excess vaccines covering postcodes in Moss Side and Hulme area.<\/p>\n<p>To manage expectations, people at the back of the queue were warned of&nbsp;a four-hour wait by council officials.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Our reporter <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/g_randall_?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@g_randall_<\/a> spoke to Manchester City Council&#8217;s Rob Brown who was organising the Moss Side walk-in clinic offering the Pfizer vaccine. 1000 eager students and young people arrived to queue up from 6am this morning. (video made with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/headlinervideo?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@headlinervideo<\/a>) <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/w72kJlQ7A3\">pic.twitter.com\/w72kJlQ7A3<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\t\u2014 The Northern Quota (@northernquota) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/northernquota\/status\/1400783785600430085?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 4, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Mr Brown said people started turning up at 6am in the morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople were turning up and asking yesterday if the vaccine was here so people have come very early and are very keen,&#8217; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s great to see people wanting the vaccine because there\u2019s been lots of negatives about people having it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And youngsters \u2013 I mean we put some information out on Instagram a couple of weeks ago and only 25% of the people who received that message had said to us they were keen to take the vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It looks a little bit different now.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image file-default media-element\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-delta=\"2\" data-fid=\"7084\" data-media-element=\"1\" height=\"800\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2021\/06\/vaccine_1-scaled.jpg\" width=\"600\"><figcaption>People from outside the Hulme and Moss Side postcodes turned up to be refused the vaccine Image: Georgina Randall<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Over&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/statistics\/statistical-work-areas\/covid-19-vaccinations\/\">75% of the country<\/a> has now had at least one vaccination and&nbsp;it is the under 30s who are still to receive their first jab.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Brown said: \u201cThe elder part of the population has their vaccines, and obviously youngsters are now playing catch up.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They want to go on holiday, they want the vaccine, they want to get out the country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I hope that we can match them with the number of vaccines we get through the NHS.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those who had been queueing for many hours were sent to Manchester Royal Infirmary to receive their first dose there instead.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The clinic is planning to do further vaccination mornings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Patients over 18 at The Arch Medical Practice in Hulme were invited with their housemates to receive their first Pfizer dose.
