Making a difference.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/c7SnIn5iik\">https:\/\/t.co\/c7SnIn5iik<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/vgHNgOPbBI\">pic.twitter.com\/vgHNgOPbBI<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\u2014 wikiwomeninred (@WikiWomenInRed) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WikiWomenInRed\/status\/1448326729513193473?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 13, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\t\t<script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Co-founder of Wiki Women In Red, Roger Bamkin, and Pankhurst Centre Ambassador Carol Ann Whitehead led the live training event in Manchester which was attended online by more than 40 people.<\/p>\n<p>During the event, 77 new editors were recruited&nbsp;including Ailsa Holland, co-author of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OnThisDayShe?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor\">On This Day She<\/a>, a history book which exclusively includes women.<\/p>\n<p>She said: &#8220;A lot of the women we&#8217;re adding in to Wikipedia today will be women that otherwise we&#8217;d have no chance of hearing of.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image file-default media-element\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Co-authors of On This Day She Jo Bell and Ailsa Holland\" data-delta=\"3\" data-fid=\"7321\" data-media-element=\"1\" height=\"515\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2021\/10\/fullsizeoutput_48c.jpeg\" title=\"Co-authors of On This Day She Jo Bell and Ailsa Holland - Credit: Zebra Partnership\" width=\"600\"><figcaption>Co-authors of On This Day She Jo Bell and Ailsa Holland &#8211; Credit: The Zebra Partnership<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The women added to Wikipedia during the edit-a-thon include <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fajer_Rabia_Pasha\">Fajer Rabia Pasha<\/a>, a Pakistani activist and entrepreneur who moved to Manchester in 2003.<\/p>\n<p>She founded the social enterprise Inspired Sisters which supports the local community in Longsight by aiming to reduce social exclusion and overcome isolation.<\/p>\n<p>When hearing she had been added to Wikipedia, Fajer Rabia Pasha said: &#8220;This has been amazing as on personal level I never had the time to do this.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So when I was informed that my profile has been updated I was really pleased.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Since Wiki Women in Red was founded in 2015, the percentage of Wikipedia articles about women has raised from 15% to 19%. Of the 1.8m biographies on Wikipedia, only 350,000 are about women.<\/p>\n<p>Each activist has a similar story as to why they are taking part in the edit-a-thon.<\/p>\n<p>Roger Bamkin founded Wiki Women in Red after writing an article about an 1840s anti slavery conference which didn\u2019t allow women in. Because we have misogynists, we have idiots, we have looneys but we manage to control them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Pankhurst Centre Ambassador, Carol Ann Whitehead, said: &#8220;Wikipedia is a global encyclopaedia. Everybody goes to Wikipedia to get information&nbsp;and the population isn&#8217;t 19% women. So the pages have to reflect that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She remains determined adding: &#8220;We&#8217;re going to change the world.
