{"id":5852,"date":"2021-10-28T11:25:39","date_gmt":"2021-10-28T10:25:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/2021\/10\/28\/man-met-delegation-prepares-cop26-set-target-net-zero-carbon-emissions\/"},"modified":"2021-10-28T11:25:39","modified_gmt":"2021-10-28T10:25:39","slug":"man-met-delegation-prepares-cop26-set-target-net-zero-carbon-emissions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/man-met-delegation-prepares-cop26-set-target-net-zero-carbon-emissions\/","title":{"rendered":"Man Met delegation prepares for COP26 to set target for net zero carbon emissions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\u201cvideo\u201d\"><script src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/api\/player.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>A group of specialists in climate change and sustainability at Man Met are travelling to Glasgow to take part in the UN climate change conference next week.<\/p>\n<p>The 11-strong <a href=\" story=\">delegation to Cop26 includes specialists in ecology, climate resilience, sustainability&nbsp;and carbon literacy.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\" story=\">The university is already a participant in the <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/gmgreencity.com\/gm-green-summit-2021\/\">Greater Manchester Green Summit<\/a> conference series, which has set goals for the city region to be carbon neutral by 2038.<\/p>\n<p>Leader of the MMU delegation, Professor Liz Price told Northern Quota: &#8220;We&#8217;d like to show that actually if Manchester can do it by 2038, then let&#8217;s be ambitious.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It comes as the government\u2019s chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance, told&nbsp;BBC Breakfast his key message to world leaders ahead of the&nbsp;summit was that holding the global temperature increase to&nbsp;1.5C was&nbsp;both important and achievable, but it required &#8220;science-based&#8221;&nbsp;urgent action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need collaboration internationally across science to make sure that we get science innovation across the world globally accessible, and we need to build capacity for research and development in those countries which need it in order to get to the solution,\u201d Sir Patrick said.<\/p>\n<p>It is a message echoed by Professor&nbsp;Price.
