{"id":6218,"date":"2021-11-15T17:27:22","date_gmt":"2021-11-15T17:27:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/2021\/11\/15\/prime-minister-warns-it-would-be-utter-tragedy-if-those-eligible-did-not-get-booster\/"},"modified":"2021-11-15T17:27:22","modified_gmt":"2021-11-15T17:27:22","slug":"prime-minister-warns-it-would-be-utter-tragedy-if-those-eligible-did-not-get-booster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/prime-minister-warns-it-would-be-utter-tragedy-if-those-eligible-did-not-get-booster\/","title":{"rendered":"Prime Minister warns it would be an \u2018utter tragedy\u2019 if those eligible did not get the booster vaccination"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Boris Johnson has held a government press <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5Uv82GLOw0k\">conference at Downing Street<\/a> to inform and update the nation on the COVID19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The conference was held just hours after it was announced that Covid booster jabs are now being offered to healthy 40 to 49-year-olds.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after a study by the UK Health Security Agency found that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/boosters-give-over-90-protection-against-symptomatic-covid-19-in-adults-over-50\">booster vaccinations&nbsp;gave over 90% protection<\/a> in people over 50.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of the booster jabs Mr Johnson said: \u201cIt would be an utter tragedy if, after everything we have been through, people who had done the right thing by getting double vaccinated ended up becoming seriously ill or even losing their lives because they allowed their immunity to wane,\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-6217\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2021\/11\/covid_vavvination_moved_sign_by_rr.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2021\/11\/covid_vavvination_moved_sign_by_rr.jpg 600w, https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2021\/11\/covid_vavvination_moved_sign_by_rr-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Also speaking at the conference was chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty who warned \u201cwe have a difficult winter ahead of us\u201d with flu season on the way.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Whitty spoke of the strain on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/\">NHS<\/a> and encouraged those eligible to get their&nbsp;booster vaccination to help alleviate this stress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe NHS is a remarkably resilient organisation, never the less everybody would accept that large parts of it, particularly at the moment the ambulance system, A&amp;E and others are under very significant pressure and I\u2019m afraid likely to remain so over the winter period.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhich is why all health staff would reiterate the point the PM made about encouraging people to get vaccination that\u2019s the single simplest thing people can do to help reduce pressure over the rest of winter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The conference also revealed that 12.6m people have received there booster or third vaccination.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">5\u20e3 The number of people who have received a booster or third dose vaccination for COVID-19 in the UK<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\u27a1\ufe0f <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mE7TLCQwoE\">https:\/\/t.co\/mE7TLCQwoE<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/sBd1xPDxtb\">pic.twitter.com\/sBd1xPDxtb<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\t\u2014 UK Prime Minister (@10DowningStreet) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/10DowningStreet\/status\/1460265132173496323?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 15, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>As of 14 November&nbsp;321,293 people in Manchester have received their second coronavirus vaccination. This increase in uptake is believed to have reduced deaths with none, within 28 days of a positive COVID test.<\/p>\n<p>Manchester has also seen a decrease in deaths, under the same circumstances, in the past week compared to the previous seven days.
