{"id":6392,"date":"2022-02-08T21:28:25","date_gmt":"2022-02-08T21:28:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/2022\/02\/08\/8m-burnage-development-over-55s-completed-after-several-years-setbacks\/"},"modified":"2022-02-08T21:28:25","modified_gmt":"2022-02-08T21:28:25","slug":"8m-burnage-development-over-55s-completed-after-several-years-setbacks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/8m-burnage-development-over-55s-completed-after-several-years-setbacks\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00a38m Burnage development for over 55s completed after several years of setbacks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new Burnage social housing development scheme is preparing to accept new tenants after overcoming two years of unforeseen&nbsp;setbacks.<\/p>\n<p>The \u00a38m development at Dahlia House&nbsp;was originally intended to open its doors in late 2020.<\/p>\n<p>It has now been formally completed and handed over by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.southwayhousing.co.uk\/\">Southway Housing Trust<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018With Care\u2019 scheme is an affordable housing option from the&nbsp;social landlord&nbsp;in partnership with the council, offering homes for older people aged 55 or over.<\/p>\n<p>The aim is to&nbsp;help residents maintain their independence.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image file-default media-element\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-delta=\"1\" data-fid=\"8055\" data-media-element=\"1\" height=\"450\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2022\/02\/dahlia-house-101.jpg\" title=\"Dahlia House, photo courtesy of Southway Housing Trust\" width=\"600\"><figcaption>Photo credit: Southway Housing Trust<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Construction of the site affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>However, additional challenges arose for the&nbsp;development when the original construction company contracted to deliver the properties went into administration in December 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Karen Mitchell, chief executive of Southway Housing, said: \u201cThis has been a complex and challenging development for many reasons,<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are delighted that the hard work, flexibility and responsiveness of our staff and our partners has delivered a successful outcome which will be of real benefit to the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gavin White,&nbsp;the council&#8217;s executive member for housing and employment, added<strong>:<\/strong> \u201cIt&#8217;s great to see another development for people over the age of 55 that will provide high quality social housing and with care on-site for those that need it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s important that as a city we are creating attractive options for people to move into later in life. This has been a challenging project and it&#8217;s with great thanks to&nbsp;Southway&nbsp;for persevering to deliver the homes, which will be so welcomed in the Burnage community&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>City council leader Bev Craig, who is a local Burnage member and former Southway Housing Trust board member, was involved with the development from the outset.<\/p>\n<p>She took to Twitter to share her delight at completion of the development.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">56 new social homes in Burnage. Can\u2019t wait to see local residents moved in. This was just one scheme of many but so pleased to see. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/hgU3p2YSV3\">https:\/\/t.co\/hgU3p2YSV3<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\t\u2014 Bev Craig (@bevcraig) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bevcraig\/status\/1488886139100569604?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 2, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Dahlia House is the second of&nbsp;<span data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\">Southway<\/span>\u2019s \u2018With Care\u2019 developments to completed by Rowlinson recently, following the completion last year of&nbsp;<a data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.southwayhousing.co.uk\/news-events\/age-friendly\/first-residents-move-into-gorton-mill-house-as-historic-site-returns-to-the-heart-of-the-community\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gorton Mill House<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>David Chilton, managing director of Rowlinson, said: &#8220;Providing quality housing choices for older people is crucial and these new homes tick every box.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Rowlinson is proud to have been part of the delivery team and, despite the challenges, know that both residents and the wider community will benefit from this development&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The plot&nbsp;is a former industrial laundry site and&nbsp;includes 34 one-bedroom homes and 22 two-bedroom apartments.<\/p>\n<p>Occupants will also have access to a flexible range on on-site care packages and support, depending on their current and future needs.<\/p>\n<p>It offers communal areas for residents with a variety of facilities for the residents including a community caf\u00e9, community space and landscaped gardens.<\/p>\n<p>The first occupants are expected to move in later this month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new Burnage social housing development scheme is preparing to accept new tenants after overcoming two years of unforeseen&nbsp;setbacks.
