Being a queer, trans, disabled and mixed-race artist, Julian recognises the importance of authentic representations of people from marginalised communities in art.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cI create my comics and the stories within not just for myself, but also for people like me, people who don\u2019t see themselves reflected in the media around us.<\/p>\n
“I want this exhibition to carry that message. I want it to be a space that encourages everyone to discuss and reflect on what stories get told in fiction, especially mainstream comics and comic adaptations.\u201d<\/p>\n
Julian\u2019s comics depict stories with protagonists such as trans knights and disabled aristocrats.<\/p>\n
The exhibition will feature stories such as Witch & Warrior, a Sapphic medieval fantasy, and The Invalid\u2019s Valet, a queer Victorian romance.<\/p>\n
\nI create my comics and for people who don\u2019t see themselves reflected in the media<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
There will also be several development sketches and timelapses demonstrating Julian\u2019s draughtsmanship and approach to character designs.<\/p>\n
The exhibition also features comics and graphic novels that have influenced Julian\u2019s work, including references to film noir, ’80s comic art, and other queer creators.<\/p>\n
The exhibition will be held from 19 March-1 May. Visitors will be able to engage with the process of comic making through drawing and writing, and are being invited to display finished creations in the gallery space.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
