{"id":6562,"date":"2022-02-23T17:14:35","date_gmt":"2022-02-23T17:14:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/2022\/02\/23\/work-begins-new-15m-cycle-hub-wythenshawe-park\/"},"modified":"2022-02-23T17:14:35","modified_gmt":"2022-02-23T17:14:35","slug":"work-begins-new-15m-cycle-hub-wythenshawe-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/work-begins-new-15m-cycle-hub-wythenshawe-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Work begins on new \u00a31.5m cycle hub in Wythenshawe Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Work has begun on a new \u00a31.5m cycling hub in Wythenshawe Park designed to help residents learn to cycle and get fit.<\/p>\n<p>The project&nbsp;follows a successful application by the council to the Places 2 Ride fund.<\/p>\n<p>A grant of \u00a3500k award came from the organisation, with the council&nbsp;providing the&nbsp;extra \u00a31m.<\/p>\n<p>A public consultation saw 1,800 residents in support of the scheme before it had to go-ahead.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">A cycle hub is coming to Wythenshawe Park!<\/p>\n<p>\t\tThe hub will be finished in the summer and boasts multiple tracks for riders of all abilities including a learn to ride area, skills zone, pump track, woodland trails, and family trail.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/T8BS5YuKX4\">https:\/\/t.co\/T8BS5YuKX4<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/zWomK7Xire\">pic.twitter.com\/zWomK7Xire<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\t\u2014 Manchester City Council (@ManCityCouncil) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ManCityCouncil\/status\/1496115080727089158?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 22, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The hub will provide a safe place for residents to learn to ride bikes and will include a woodlands trail and family trail for people to ride.<\/p>\n<p>A skill zone and pump track will also be available for experienced riders to hone their skills.<\/p>\n<p>The facility will be free to use&nbsp;and the public will &nbsp;be able to book cycling lessons with trained instructors.<\/p>\n<p>Primary schools in the area have been showing their&nbsp;support of the project online, siting the new opportunites it provides for their pupils.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The new development will provide new opportunities for schools and their pupils.<\/p>\n<p>\t\tWe need as many potential users of the new development to give feedback to help develop the plan and complete the application. This is being done by a short survey.<\/p>\n<p>\t\u2014 Benchill Primary (@BenchillSchool) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BenchillSchool\/status\/1347548374795497474?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 8, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The project aims to inspire more people to take up cycling and take advantage of the growing number of cycle routes in and around the city.<\/p>\n<p>The facility&nbsp;is also hoping to provide a space for cycling communities such a Simply Cycling and Nacro to operate, which<a href=\"https:\/\/ilovemanchester.com\/community-cycling-facility-wythenshawe-park\"> provides&nbsp;social opportunities for the community<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The project follows previous investments and renovations to&nbsp;the park&#8217;s tennis courts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Rabnawaz Akbar, who is the executive member for neighbourhoods, said of the hub:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a brilliant investment from both Manchester City Council and Sport England, via the Places to Ride programme. Parks and public spaces are important for local communities and the development of this cycle hub is a great scheme. \u202f&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe council are dedicated to encouraging more cycling in and around the city.
