{"id":6697,"date":"2022-03-08T16:04:28","date_gmt":"2022-03-08T16:04:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/2022\/03\/08\/had-kit-had-been-available-he-might-still-been-here-today-manchesters-first-bleed-safety\/"},"modified":"2022-03-08T16:04:28","modified_gmt":"2022-03-08T16:04:28","slug":"had-kit-had-been-available-he-might-still-been-here-today-manchesters-first-bleed-safety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/had-kit-had-been-available-he-might-still-been-here-today-manchesters-first-bleed-safety\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Had this kit had been available he might still been here today&#8217;: Manchester&#8217;s first bleed safety cabinet installed in memory of schoolboy Rhamero West"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Manchester&#8217;s first life-saving &#8216;bleed safety&#8217; cabinet has been installed in memory of schoolboy Rhamero West who died in a knife attack.<\/p>\n<p>The cabinet will help people give first aid to help those have been stabbed before paramedics arrive.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The cabinet contains instructions on how to control bleeding, as well as equipment to use depending on where on the body the person has been stabbed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rhamero, known as Mero,&nbsp;was stabbed in Trafford in September 2021.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image file-default media-element\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Rhamero West\" data-delta=\"1\" data-fid=\"8368\" data-media-element=\"1\" height=\"985\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2022\/03\/rhamero_west_0-scaled.jpg\" title=\"Rhamero West\" width=\"600\"><figcaption>The cabinet has been installed in the memory of Rhamero West&nbsp; Image: PA Media<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The installation can be found outside The Place Library in Fallowfield.<\/p>\n<p>Mero&#8217;s mother, Kelly, says the family are turning their &#8220;pain into fight&#8221; to make a change across Manchester.<\/p>\n<p>She said: &#8220;I&#8217;m honoured.&nbsp;I wish it didn&#8217;t come to this, putting up the first one in honour of my son but it has. Other events have included a pizza and chill evening welcoming local teenagers to a safe, fun and immersive space to discuss what they want to see in their community.<\/p>\n<p>The bleed safety cabinets cost of \u00a3600 each, with three being sponsored by companies&nbsp;<a data-testid=\"fecp-link-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/www.brighthr.com\/?utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=cpc&amp;utm_term=bright%20hr&amp;utm_campaign=*Brand-BrightHR&amp;gclid=CjwKCAiAgbiQBhAHEiwAuQ6Bkrk6CyRwJ7M0AcQcfFnHKUnZ2v7zLsYwlZyrkR9IuGf8ZPomEdGhTBoCEloQAvD_BwE\">BrightHR<\/a>, Deanne&#8217;s former employer,&nbsp;<a data-testid=\"fecp-link-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/www.peninsulagrouplimited.com\/?utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=cpc&amp;utm_campaign=*Brand%20-%20Volume|UK&amp;utm_content=&amp;utm_term=peninsula&amp;gclid=CjwKCAiAgbiQBhAHEiwAuQ6Bkn_IoffYf1m8KKDXg22BJcSlf9aPqCISFLIzN_q_mCT_VBNZW-MM8BoCVx8QAvD_BwE\">Peninsula<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a data-testid=\"fecp-link-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/www.healthassured.org\/?utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=cpc&amp;utm_campaign=*Brand&amp;adgroup=Health%20Assured%20Prospects&amp;utm_term=health%20assured&amp;gclid=CjwKCAiAgbiQBhAHEiwAuQ6BkmQA2sbCEsq-IJSvUnyIkwvrdCqU4aX3En8P9GuBffDfhYBQK39a3hoCsQoQAvD_BwE\">Health Assured<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>They will be installed in Hulme, Moss Side and Rusholme.<\/p>\n<p>Deanne said: &#8220;We&#8217;re delighted to have raised enough money to install this first cabinet in Manchester.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Long-term, we&#8217;re hoping to raise enough money to place bleed safety cabinets in every area of Manchester.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A second cabinet will be placed in Old Trafford, hopefully by the end of March, and we&#8217;re raising money for more to go up throughout the city.&#8221;<br \/>\n\tRhamero&#8217;s death has also meant a change of career for Deanne who has started&nbsp;studying criminology and psychology at the&nbsp;Arden University.<\/p>\n<p>She said: &#8220;For me, it&#8217;s not just about raising awareness, we also need to educate people &#8211; parents as well as children.
