{"id":6709,"date":"2022-03-10T13:37:56","date_gmt":"2022-03-10T13:37:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/2022\/03\/10\/charity-duck-race-returns-salford-quays-after-two-year-delay-due-covid\/"},"modified":"2022-03-10T13:37:56","modified_gmt":"2022-03-10T13:37:56","slug":"charity-duck-race-returns-salford-quays-after-two-year-delay-due-covid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/charity-duck-race-returns-salford-quays-after-two-year-delay-due-covid\/","title":{"rendered":"Charity duck race returns to Salford Quays after two-year delay due to Covid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Manchester charity <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medequip4kids.org.uk\/\">MedEquip4Kids<\/a> are bringing their duck race fundraiser back to the Quays following a two-year delay due to Covid.<\/p>\n<p>The race returns for its seventh year and funds raised will be put towards vital medical equipment for children&nbsp;not currently funded by the NHS.<\/p>\n<p>As well as the business and community duck races, the event includes fairground rides, face painting and a tombola.<\/p>\n<p>Salford businesses will provide&nbsp;refreshments at the event, hosting burgers, ice cream and coffee stands.<\/p>\n<p>MedEquip4Kids\u2019 project co-ordinator, Evelyn Glarvey, told NQ: \u201cThis is our first year back since 2019, as 2020 and 2021 were cancelled due to lockdown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re having two different races on the day \u2013 there\u2019s the corporate duck race where local businesses sponsor a duck for \u00a3250.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey get their duck delivered as an ordinary plastic duck which they get to decorate and then on the day we have a competition for the best dressed duck.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p>\u2014 Soapworks (@TheSoapworks) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheSoapworks\/status\/1499416922215047172?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 3, 2022<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p>She continued: \u201cAfter that we have the community race with the smaller ducks and the most we\u2019ve ever sold for that is 1200.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe normally get the fire brigade to help out as well, as they use their hoses to help the ducks flow along the water.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey usually stick around all day, so it\u2019s fun for the children to be able to see the fire engine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The duck race helps to fund local equipment and projects across Manchester.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have projects across Manchester, including Bolton and Tameside at the moment,\u201d Evelyn said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvents are a big part of our funding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlus, it\u2019s a fun day out, it\u2019s good for the community and it\u2019s a way of ensuring people hear about MedEquip4Kids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-6708\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2022\/03\/ducks.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"401\" srcset=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2022\/03\/ducks.jpeg 756w, https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2022\/03\/ducks-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The annual duck race takes place at <a href=\"https:\/\/salfordwatersports.com\/\">Salford Watersports Centre<\/a> on 15<sup>h<\/sup> April.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets for the small ducks are now on sale and can be purchased <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketsource.co.uk\/medEquip4Kids\/t-onreln\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The MedEquip4Kids website contains information about projects they support and how people can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medequip4kids.org.uk\/support-us\/\">donate<\/a> to help them fund vital medical equipment for young people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Manchester charity MedEquip4Kids are bringing their duck race fundraiser back to the Quays following a two-year delay due to Covid.
