{"id":681,"date":"2016-12-06T10:27:31","date_gmt":"2016-12-06T10:27:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/2016\/12\/06\/city-wide-libraries-survey-reveals-progress-manchesters-library\/"},"modified":"2016-12-06T10:27:31","modified_gmt":"2016-12-06T10:27:31","slug":"city-wide-libraries-survey-reveals-progress-manchesters-library","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/city-wide-libraries-survey-reveals-progress-manchesters-library\/","title":{"rendered":"City-wide libraries survey reveals progress of Manchester&#8217;s library"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The<strong> Public Library Users Survey<\/strong>,<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>carried out across Manchester&rsquo;s 22 public libraries over a one-week period in October, found that&nbsp;<strong>93.3% of 4,750 <\/strong>people surveyed gave their local library an overall rating of either <strong>&lsquo;good&rsquo; or &lsquo;very good&rsquo;<\/strong>, representing&nbsp;a <strong>4.5% increase <\/strong>on the result of the last survey in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>It is the highest overall satisfaction figure recorded since Manchester-wide library surveys were first conducted in 2002.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors were asked to rate their library service across <strong>nine different measures<\/strong>, including:&nbsp;<strong>range<\/strong> of books on offer, <strong>internal<\/strong> and <strong>external<\/strong> condition of the library, <strong>opening hours<\/strong>, <strong>standard<\/strong><strong> of customer care<\/strong> and <strong>computer provision<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The survey found that visitor satisfaction citywide had <strong>improved in eight of the nine measures<\/strong> since 2012, with notable increases recorded in categories including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Interior condition of the library &ndash; up <strong>6.5% to 91%<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Exterior condition of the library &ndash; up <strong>12.5% to 88%<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The library&rsquo;s opening hours &#8211; up <strong>8% to 88%<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Choice of books on offer &#8211; up <strong>7% to 82%<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Satisfaction with the standard of customer care experienced within libraries citywide remained steady, at<strong> 93%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Manchester Central Library reopened to the public in March 2014, following a successful four-year, <strong>&pound;50m project <\/strong>to transform the building. It is visited by more than <strong>1.5 million people per year<\/strong> and recognised as one of Britain&#39;s most important public libraries.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align:center\">\n<figure class=\"image file-default media-element\" style=\"display:inline-block\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Central Library cafe and Archives+ Centre\" data-fid=\"982\" data-media-element=\"1\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/sites\/default\/files\/clc-0947.jpg\" title=\"Central Library cafe and Archives+ Centre\" width=\"450\" \/><figcaption>Central Library cafe and Archives+ Centre<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>For the&nbsp;<strong>Central Library<\/strong>,&nbsp;2016 Users Survey found that <strong>96%<\/strong>&nbsp;of visitors rated Central Library as good or very good overall and that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>94% of visitors were satisfied with the <strong>interior appearance<\/strong> of Central Library &#8211; compared to 81% in 2009, before the transformation project (<strong>up 13%<\/strong>)&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>88% of visitors were satisfied with the <strong>choice of books<\/strong> on offer at Central Library &#8211; compared to 77% before the transformation (<strong>up 11%<\/strong>)&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>86% of visitors were satisfied with the <strong>computer facilities<\/strong> at Central Library &#8211; compared to just 69% in 2009 (<strong>up 17%<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Executive member for culture and leisure, Councillor Luthfur Rahman<\/strong>, said: &ldquo;I&rsquo;m very encouraged by the results of this survey.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We know how much Manchester residents value their local libraries and will continue to work hard to ensure that we meet their expectations for a modern, welcoming and accessible library service.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Central Library plays a vital role at the heart of our libraries network<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&quot;The four-year transformation project has secured the long-term future of a library of national importance, which is much loved by Manchester residents and by our visitors from around the world.&quot;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Public Library Users Survey,&nbsp;carried out across Manchester&rsquo;s 22 public libraries over a one-week period in October, found that&nbsp;93.3% of 4,750 people surveyed gave their&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1216,"featured_media":680,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"om_disable_all_campaigns":false,"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_uf_show_specific_survey":0,"_uf_disable_surveys":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[4972,1],"tags":[382,7,132],"class_list":["post-681","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","category-uncategorised","tag-library","tag-manchester","tag-manchester-city-council"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.1 -
