Notably GMFRS\u2019s Chief Fire Officer being paid \u00a3172,205.15 in 2022 while a frontline firefighter was paid \u00a332,244.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This pay disparity was emphasised in November last year when firefighters were offered a 5% pay increase, which they have since rejected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This move is leaving firefighters and control staff no choice but to take on additional jobs and use food banks to provide for their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1009\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2023\/01\/GMFRS-sign-and-recycling-banks-1009x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9148\" srcset=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2023\/01\/GMFRS-sign-and-recycling-banks-1009x1024.jpg 1009w, https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2023\/01\/GMFRS-sign-and-recycling-banks-296x300.jpg 296w, https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2023\/01\/GMFRS-sign-and-recycling-banks-768x780.jpg 768w, https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2023\/01\/GMFRS-sign-and-recycling-banks-1513x1536.jpg 1513w, https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/437\/2023\/01\/GMFRS-sign-and-recycling-banks.jpg 1786w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1009px) 100vw, 1009px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Fire Fighters Charity Recycling Bank<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.firefighterscharity.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fire Fighters Charity<\/a> is taking matters into its own hands to help all serving and retired members to live happier and healthier lives. They offer support, advice, fundraise for those in need and they have also set up recycling banks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fire Brigades Union ballot<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are just three weeks left until the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) strike ballot draws to a close. After this, industrial action will be announced depending on the results of the ballot. Many are wondering what will happen next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matt Wrack, Fire Brigades Union general secretary, has said that strike action will always be a last resort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked what the FBU are doing, Wrack stated: &#8220;We are doing everything we can to secure a decent offer [of pay]. We have held talks with and written letters to many different parties. But no such pay offer has been forthcoming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe look forward to receiving a pay offer from them that addresses the cost of living crisis firefighters and control staff are living through. We have been mandated by our members to fight for pay that they can live on and will do that.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a national strike were to happen, it would be the first strike in the Fire and Rescue service since pension action between 2013 \u2013 2015 and the first on pay since 2002 \u2013 2003.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government has made its thoughts on strikes clear. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>It\u2019s against the law to take part in \u2018<strong>secondary action<\/strong>\u2019 (going on strike in sympathy with people who work for a different employer).<\/p><cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/industrial-action-strikes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gov.uk\/\/industrial-action-strikes<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>PM Rishi Sunak has called strikers a threat to hardworking families. FBU urges firefighters and control staff to get their ballots in as soon as possible and #VoteYes to #FairPayorFireStrike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A last resort.
