There\u2019s poor nutrition of staff, staff are leaving to go to other sectors not necessarily in health, but we also have staff that are going to private health care providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the thing that bothers me the most really because if our own staff are going to private providers to get better pay, the NHS is still paying for that money. It doesn\u2019t sit well with me because no one should profit from the NHS.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked what the government can do to help, Nick said: \u201cThey need to listen to the staff that are doing the job and the no-negotiation is just stubbornness really. We\u2019ve waited for an improvement of the NHS for years now. It\u2019s always been a promise. Even the Brexit deal suggested we were going to get money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOver the winter months the emergency departments looked similar to what I would expect in a warzone. You look around and you see your colleagues the nurses and consultants that are all under stress. It\u2019s not fair and that\u2019s what makes them leave.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201cUnless and until <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RishiSunak?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@RishiSunak<\/a> accepts the need to make real progress on the current <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NHS?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#NHS<\/a> pay claim, there will still be strikes across the NHS this winter.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UniteSharon?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@UniteSharon<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SaveOurNHS?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#SaveOurNHS<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/0EBq7hqZnI\">pic.twitter.com\/0EBq7hqZnI<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Unite the union: join a union (@unitetheunion) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/unitetheunion\/status\/1613191366816763905?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 11, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Funding for NHS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding the \u00a3350m per week funding promised to the NHS during the Brexit campaign, Nick added: \u201cWell I\u2019ve not seen where it is or what extra services it\u2019s providing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe departments a lot of the time are at capacity and we\u2019re using corridors as places to nurse and keep patients. That\u2019s not what they\u2019re designed for, they\u2019re designed to walk through, not to sit somebody in a doorway on a trolley and have them sit there for 13 hours because we have nowhere to move them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcn.org.uk\/news-and-events\/press-releases\/corridor-care-in-hospitals-becoming-the-new-norm-warns-rcn\">Corridor care<\/a> has become a major issue in the past few months for hospitals that are running out of beds and rooms for ailing patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Latest figures from UnitetheUnion.org suggest one in four ambulances are also waiting for over an hour to discharge patients to A&amp;E. Unite says that its\u2019 ambulance workers are <a href=\"https:\/\/satellite.mmu.ac.uk\/northernquota-old\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=9120&amp;action=edit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">striking<\/a> as a last resort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8216;Compromising public health&#8217;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHealthcare is not something we should compromise on as we all need it at the point of delivery and we need it to be there and available to us, not just when we have the means to pay for it,\u201d said Nick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Health secretary Steve Barclay is drawing criticism as he is \u2018pitting nurses against patients\u2019, with the Royal College of Nursing branding the comments \u2018a new low\u2019. This followed comments last week when he said he has concerns for patients\u2019 safety if nurses continue to strike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nick added: \u201cI see colleagues that have to work a lot of hours a month and sometimes you can see it really takes a toll on them. That is just so they can survive &#8211; survive and feed their family.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In central Manchester, thousands of staff are due to strike at the Blood and Transplant Service site on Plymouth Grove today between 11am and 7pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other picket lines in Greater Manchester are based in Audenshaw, Whitefield and Rochdale.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Industrial action is continuing today (Monday) with strikes by public sector workers &#8211; including ambulance staff &#8211; for the third time in five weeks.
