Developing skills in schools
About
Skills strategy: Working with schools
to develop the talent of tomorrow
Our work with schoolchildren, colleges and education providers, underpinned by our shaping of skills strategies in the North West, is key to the future success of clean,
green energy.
At Manchester Fuel Cell Innovation Centre, we believe that investing early in young minds and addressing the current clean energy skills gaps employers face, benefits us all,
now and tomorrow.
We invite schools onto our campus to discover hydrogen technology, its uses and the potential of clean, renewable energy sources through interactive activities with our experts.
HySchools: Collaborating with educators across EuropeInspiring young minds and developing the technology talent of tomorrow is a vital element
of the Centre’s ethos.
Manchester Fuel Cell Innovation Centre recently delivered one of the first international programmes of hydrogen education for 13-18 year olds. A result of our international partnerships and successful industry collaborations, the HySchools (Hydrogen in Schools) programme is just one way Manchester Fuel Cell Innovation Centre is helping to shape the roadmap to develop clean energy skills.
Through HySchools we have developed educational resources for use in secondary schools globally. These online and offline resources are aimed at teachers (and parents and carers who are home-schooling) to increase confidence in teaching students about hydrogen fuel cell technology. Topics include:
- applications and impacts
- production
- storage, distribution and risk management
- economy and employment
- history
- policy and law.
Working with seven other European Partners, we developed resource packs for pupils and teachers at secondary schools, as well as online resources including videos, to help educate the next generation of technology talent about clean energy hydrogen and fuel cells
